James R. Thorpe, Of CounselJames R. Thorpe was born and raised in Beloit, Wisconsin and was educated there from preschool through Beloit College. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Law School, he spent approximately three years as a tax research attorney at the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance in Madison, Wisconsin. Jim then joined what is now the Nowlan & Mouat Law Firm in Janesville, where he practiced in the transaction, real estate, and business law areas, representing growing area businesses. Jim continues to focus his practice in these areas at Carney Thorpe, LLC. Jim has extensive experience in assisting businesses and real estate developers. For example, when Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRBs) first became available, he processed a considerable number of IRBs for clients, primarily in the Southern Wisconsin area. He has been involved in a number of labor matters, industrial developments, and general real estate development matters. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENTJim firmly believes one of the responsibilities lawyers have is to actively participate in improving our community. As such, over the years, he has been very involved with many local non-profit organizations, including the Janesville Community Day Care Center, KANDU Industries, the Rock County Humane Society, and several arts organizations including Janesville Presents! and Bower City Theatre Company. Jim was heavily involved in efforts to develop a local performing arts center, which became a reality with the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC), an innovative venue in the former Janesville High School, which was historically re-adapted as an apartment complex, with a performing arts center for many local presenter groups. JPAC has become an important part of the community. Practice Areas: |
